Open access to the sample surface is available for diagnostic probes and radiation from laser and synchrotron radiation sources.

The Bx component of the field is uniform to +/-1% in a planar, thin volume of 2 x 10 x 0.2mm (x, y, z) which is particularly appropriate for studies of in-plane effects in planar samples oriented parallel to the Electromagnet surface.

Bx can be computer or manually controlled over the range of +/-0.4T (4000G) at z = 2mm from the Electromagnet surface, decreasing to a range of +/-0.1T(1000G) at z = 12mm.

5201 Bx By Bz PlotThe Bz component of the field approaches a range of +/- 0.30T (3000G) as the distance X(mm), x=0 being an equidistant distance between the two poles, at +/-5mm. As the x distance approaches 0 the Bz component of the field also approaches 0.

Small size and low weight enable the 5201 to be mounted in any orientation on standard transverse and rotary motion stages for accurate control of the projected field in position and angle with respect to the sample. The 5201 projected field can be introduced into a vacuum chamber or cryostat via a reentrant tube of 100mm (3.9inch) inside diameter and an appropriate non-magnetic window.

Arrays up to 150mm (6inch) can be accommodated in a volume of 150mm long x 10mm wide in the field direction and 15mm deep, with a field uniformity better than ±2.5%.

With a field settling time of <0.1sec for 1mT(10G) increments, a full ±50mT B loop can be measured in 20sec.

A B probe located at one end of the uniform field region provides an analog voltage output which tracks the central field to within ±1%. This can be used for field stamping of the measured parameters or for closed loop field control.

A clear cross-section between the Pole faces of 25m wide x 55m deep, provides space for an oven around the sensor array to enable sensor testing as a function of temperature.

Continuous operation at maximum field of 50mT requires only 22W power dissipation and the 5301 can be excited by a small, low cost, power amplifier and convection air cooled.

The 5403AC Electromagnet is similar in design to the standard 5403 except that the poles and yoke are laminated for AC field applications. This magnet can be used for teaching, research and industrial applications where fast field ramping and settling is required.  The light weight allows it to be used on optical tables and the poles include provision for axial optical holes.

The 5403EG Electromagnet is an extended fixed gap C frame dipole electromagnet. This magnet is similar to the standard 5403 but has air-cooled coils to provide a larger clearance between the coils. It is used in research and industrial applications where a large pole gap and coil spacing is required for the sample or ancillary equipment.  It can be operated to high current for intermittent operation or low current for continuous operation. The light weight allows it to be used on optical tables or production test equipment and the simple poles enable axial entry & exit holes to be matched to the optical geometry.
